SI Committee for Latin America and the Caribbean meets in Buenos Aires

The Socialist International Committee for Latin America and the Caribbean, meeting in Buenos Aires on 9-10 April 2010,


That the Venezuelan parties, AD, MAS, Podemos and UNT have, reiterated to the SI reports of violations of the Constitution, of persecution and exiling of political leaders, and violations of human and political rights of Venezuelan citizens.


1. To reaffirm the commitment of the Committee to the democratic political values which the SI has always defended;

2. To express concern with regard to the respect for Human Rights and democratic freedoms in that country and request the liberation of political prisoners and the return of refugees;

3. To reiterate its call for dialogue between all political actors in Venezuela;

4. To request that the Chair of the SI Committee for Latin America and the Caribbean and the Secretary General of the Socialist International visit Venezuela to meet with the entire political spectrum of that country, with the purpose of assessing the positions of the parties and exploring the possibility of promoting dialogue and understanding between them.
