Declaration on the Presidential Election to be held in Côte d’Ivoire on 25 October 2025
18 September 2025
The Socialist International expresses its deep concern over the exclusion of candidates from the presidential election, notably Pascal Affi N’Guessan, leader of our member party, the Ivorian Popular Front (FPI), as well as Laurent Gbagbo and Tidjane Thiam.
This elimination of key candidates from the forthcoming presidential election in Côte d’Ivoire, scheduled for 25 October, is unjust and arbitrary.
Such a decision represents a serious violation of democratic principles, political pluralism, and the legitimate right of the Ivorian people to freely choose their leaders in a transparent, inclusive, and fair process.
The Socialist International reaffirms its fraternal support for its member party, the Ivorian Popular Front (FPI), and its leader Pascal Affi N’Guessan, and commends their constant commitment to democracy, social justice, and peace in Côte d’Ivoire.
We call upon the Ivorian authorities to ensure an electoral process in line with international standards and respectful of fundamental human rights, so that the voice of the Ivorian people may be fully and freely expressed.
The Socialist International stands alongside the FPI and all the democratic forces in the country to defend the values of freedom, equality, and solidarity.
