Kurdish Working Group Meeting
Sulaimani, 3 May 2025
On 3rd May 2025, members and representatives of the Kurdish Working Group convened in Sulaimani to discuss the reactivation of the Kurdish Working Group within the Socialist International (SI). This important meeting marked a renewed commitment to strengthening Kurdish representation and engagement within the broader framework of international social democracy.
The participants reaffirmed their dedication to the principles of democracy, justice, equality, and peaceful dialogue. They emphasised the continuing relevance and necessity of the Kurdish Working Group as a platform for promoting Kurdish rights and political participation within the Socialist International.
The meeting concluded with a unanimous decision to formally reactivate the Kurdish Working Group of SI. Furthermore, participants agreed to initiate preparations for holding a comprehensive conference of the Kurdish Working Group, in cooperation with the SI Presidium. This upcoming conference will serve as a key milestone in developing the Kurdish Working Groups agenda, enhancing cooperation among member parties, and reinforcing the values of solidarity and mutual support.
The Kurdish Working Group extends its gratitude to all those who participated in and supported the meeting in Sulaimani especially our comrades from the secretariat and presidium of the SI (Ms Chantal Kambiwa SI General Coordinator , Ms Paulina Lampsa , Executive Vice President and Chair of Ethics Committee, Ms Hana Jalloul SI Vice President and Member of the European Parliament and Mr Eero Heinaluoma SI Honorary President, Chair of SI Finance and Administration Committee and Member of the European Parliament, Carlos Wallhead Head of SI Secretariat.) who joined us through the zoom program, and calls upon all democratic and progressive forces within the Socialist International to support these renewed efforts.
