The political parties, members of the Socialist International Committee for Latin America and the Caribbean, meeting in Montevideo, Uruguay, on 3-4 April 2006, welcome the historic victory of Michele Bachelet and her politics of equality.
Keeping in mind that countries which have made advances in relation to the political participation of women are those which have taken measures for positive action,
We resolve:
1) to support parliamentary initiatives aimed at increasing the presence of women in all areas of decision-making, as is the case of the recent draft law presented in Uruguay.
2) to achieve equal opportunities in regional and world meetings so that the effective presence of women in all parliaments and party positions of responsibility is assured.
